7. Clothing and Equipment for Training Sessions and Matches

Clothing

Once youth membership has been paid each player will receive a pair of club tracksuit bottoms and training shirt which can be used for both training sessions and matches. For new members who have not yet received their club kit can wear training sportswear such as tracksuit trousers, polo shirt or T-shirt and sweatshirt/hoodie. It's also advised that Juniors wear Sports trainers rather than fashion/skate/converse trainers.

For those selected for club tracksuit bottoms and blue training shirt can be worn. Please can Junior Players not wear Spiked cricket shoes for matches (unless advised to by your Team Manager) as most of our juniors matches are played on plastic/artificial wickets on which spiked shoes cannot be used.

Any additional Verwood Cricket Club branded clothing can be bought from our Pendle sports Kit Shop - Pendle Sports

Equipment
At training sessions we practice softball and hard ball cricket and therefore Juniors will need some equipment to be able to take part in the sessions.
There is no need to go out and buy equipment of your own, the club has a fully stocked kit bag to which players can use

For hygiene reasons, however, we cannot supply Abdominal Guards and it is essential that each boy has their own
* to wear a Box correctly, cricket underwear is available that includes a pouch to place the Box within - an example can be found here - https://www.morrant.com/cricket_clothing/kookaburra_cricket_jock_short__junior/103585_p.html

If you do wish to buy your own equipment at some stage please speak to one of the coaches who will offer advice and the best locations to purchase equipment

U9s
When the children get to Year 4s/U9s players we will start to introduce the players to hardball cricket which can be potentially a little daunting, and we will only introduce hard ball practice when a player is confident of doing so. With the U9s we tend to do a couple of things to help them along. We also tend to use an 'Incrediball', which is harder than the soft orange ball we use at All Stars cricket but not as firm as a hard cricket ball. We can also use these 'Incrediballs' for catching and fielding which gives the younger players a step up without the potential pressure of playing with a hard ball.
