Our youth program

Welcome to the Colts section of Verwood Cricket Club.

Does your child fancy playing cricket?

Your child may have had a taster session at school and really enjoyed it or they are not getting a ‘look in’ at another club or you may be travelling too far to another club.

Whatever the reason contact us, Verwood’s local team, the fastest growing cricket club in Dorset and see what it’s all about.

We cater for both boys and girls.

Batting, bowling, fielding, captaining skills - we can help develop them all.

Welcome to the youth section of Verwood Cricket Club.

We have been running a successful youth section for 7 seasons now and many of our youth players from the early seasons are starting to represent Verwood in the adult teams.

We have numerous representatives in the Dorset Youth District sides and have 3 current full Dorset County Youth Representatives from Verwood.  A great achievement for them and something all at the club are very proud of

We don’t have dedicated girls teams (yet!) but we are keen to encourage girls to play cricket. There are no issues with them playing alongside boys and we look forward to seeing more and more girls playing cricket for us.

For 2018 we have entered Under 9s, 11s, 12s, 13s, 14s & 15s in to the East & South Dorset Cricket League.

Age definitions for cricket are the same as for school years with their age at midnight on 31st August in the previous year being the cut off point. To be an U11 (School Yr 6) in 2018, players must have been 10 or younger on that date in 2017.

For 2017 indoor Dorset Winter Leagues we have entered Under 12s, 13s, 14s, 15s

Run by an experienced, qualified group of volunteers from our adults section.

Membership fees

Colts membership to Verwood cricket is 12 monthly payments of £10 (direct debit). This covers all cricket related fees; summer training at Potterne Park, winter training in the sports hall at Emmanuel, summer matches outdoors, winter league matches at The Cricket Centre Hurn, all coaches fees, end of season awards, and also covers the club insurance policy and purchases kit for training and the clubs kitbags.

Please use the Colts DD form, available on request from

Players will be expected to play matches in a white shirt and white trousers. The majority of junior matches are played on artificial wickets so it is generally best to wear trainers although there may be occasions when it is possible to use spikes.  All boys must wear a box and we recommend they have their own.  Please make sure that your child is appropriately attired to keep the box in place – loose fitting boxer shorts are therefore not appropriate.

Please note that junior players will be required to wear helmets when batting, these are provided by the club.

The Club will provide all kit (eg, bats, pads, gloves, helmets etc) for the sessions and for the matches.

Other Verwood Cricket Club branded clothing is available such as hoodies or training kit from and these make excellent Birthday or Christmas presents.

Presentation Day

Every year we hold a Presentation event to celebrate achievements in the previous year and have a bit of fun. This is normally held on a Sunday afternoon after the summer season has finished and starts with an informal game with the Colts followed by a cricket tea and presentations of various awards.

Finally, and most importantly, we believe that playing cricket should be fun and an enjoyable experience for all players, irrespective of their ability. We strongly believe that the game should be played in the right spirit and actively encourage that with our players.
