Verwood v Parley D

A very youthful Verwood side lost their opening match of the campaign on Sunday evening. After winning the toss E.Pearson put a very experienced Parley D in to bat. Parley D started off brightly but wickets from M.Richmond and a superb run out from C.Gajic put Verwood back in the match. The innings closed at 198 for 5. Verwoods reply fell short of the target by 63 runs. Many positives came out of the game including a well earned 50 from C.Gajic and a very competent performance from wicket-keeper L.Hancock, who also took a catch.
(Team: A.Gajic, C.Gajic, L.Hancock, E.Pearson, A.Richmond, M.Richmond).

                                                                                                                Verwood v Wayferers

VCC lost their second match of the season on Sunday afternoon. VCC won the toss and elected to field. A very strong Wayferers outscored VCC by 89 runs.

It was a very much improved fielding performance from the first game of the season with very little overthrows being conceded. There were run outs for Mike Jolliffe as well as Ali Gajic. Verwoods batting included 35 from Charlie Gajic and 25 from brother Ali. Personally I think that VCC came up against the strongest side in the league on Sunday and played very well.

Thanks again to Joe for umpiring at square leg for the match.

(Team: C Gajic, L Hancock, K Martinez, E Pearson, M Jolliffe & A Gajic)

Top Batting averages:

1. C Gajic - 42.5
2. A Gajic - 15.5

Verwood v Christchurch B

Sorry for the delay guys, been under the weather recently and have had "festive" commitments to attend too.

Verwood lost their third game of the season to Christchurch B. Verwood won the toss and were put into bat by the skipper. they were all out for 121, with only Richard Pearson scoring decent runs (26).

It was a tough match with only five Verwood players (Match time cock-up) but fielded very well and took two wickets of Christchurch B before they reached the target set.

The game included a caught and bowled by Richard Pearson and a well taken run out by Mike Jolliffe.

Hope you have all had a good Christmas and look forward to seeing you all again in the new year.

Eric Pearson

P.S. Next training session is on 23rd January at 2000 until 2100.

Verwood v Boscombe

Verwood cruised to victory last night with high scoring C Gajic (74*) and A Richmond (44) doing the bulk of the damage with the bat. Verwood lost the toss and were put into bat, scoring 190 for the fall of five wickets. Verwood put early pressure on Boscombe’s reply with E Pearson clean bowling an opener with his first ball. A Richmond picked up two wickets, with the aid of a superb catch from E Pearson and a stumping (off a wide!!!) by L Hancock, as well run outs from A Gajic and A Richmond. The innings came to a close with Boscombe’s last batsmen hitting the roof on 121. A superb fielding display from the Gajic brothers and M Jolliffe topped off a great victory.

Thanks to those who played and made themselves available for the late start,

Eric Pearson.

Ps. Training Wednesday 23rd January @ 2000 until 2100.

Verwood v HPA

Verwood's fifth match of the campaign ended in a defeat to HPA on Sunday night. Verwood won the toss and put the opposition into bat. Verwood, again with a strong fielding performance by all, restricted HPA to 180-4 with Chris Jollife picking up three wickets with the aid of a juggling catch from his son Mike. E Pearson also took a run out. Verwoods reply didn't get off to a great start, and got worse with the exception of C Gajic (22) and M Jolliffe (16) putting up resistance. Verwood struggled again with running between the wickets and hitting the roof,  eventually ending up all out for just 89.

The season so far has had it's up's and down's but with a win on the final game of the season should see Verwood cement their place in the current division (restructuring of the league not included).

Team: E. Pearson., C. Gajic., L. Hancock., M. Jolliffe., C. Jolliffe., K. Martinez.

Anyone who is available for the final fixture on the 24th Feb @ 20.45, please can they let me know as I already have a few players who can't play in this game.

Cheers

Eric Pearson.

Ps. Training on Weds 20th Feb @ 20.00.

Verwood v Ellingham

Verwood fell just 23 runs short of the target set for victory on Sunday night. After winning the toss and electing to field Verwood got off to a good start stifling the batsmen with opening bowlers Pearson (3-0-42) and Gajic (3-0-40). Verwood broke the deadlock with a run out by Gajic. Tight bowling from M Richmond (3-0-44) and Jolliffe (3-0-56) saw Ellingham restricted to 183/1. But so often has been the case this season running between the wickets let Verwood down. Gajic top scored with 67* along with Hancock chipping in with a hard earned 41* (making up for his juggling behind the stumps earlier). Verwood were made to pay for their lacklustre running and required an impossible 55 off the last 6 balls.

Team: E. Pearson; C. Gajic; A. Richmond; M. Richmond; M. Jolliffe; L. Hancock.

Season Report

We may have finished in the bottom half of division 4 this season but there were many positives to take from the season including batting performances from Luke (41*), Charlie (74*, 67*, 50) and Adam (44). As well as an improving fielding performance, bowling was one of Verwood’s strengths this season notably Charlie, Ali and even the skipper managed a few dot balls in a row and a few wickets! I have tried to keep the “core” players playing as much as possible this year to give consistency so nothing personal if I haven’t contacted you about a game! It is a completely different game to outdoors which I think everyone who has played now appreciates.

I have really enjoyed captaining the side this season and learnt a lot. A big thank you to everyone who has played, watched, umpired and scored.

Eric Pearson
